History about DZ

Delta Zeta was founded in 1902 as the first national sorority at Miami University of Oxford, Ohio. There were six founders of Delta Zeta: Alfa Lloyd Hayes, Mary Jane Collins, Anna Louise Keen, Julia Lawrence Bishop, Mabelle May Minton, and Anne Dial Simmons.

The sorority joined the National Panhellenic Conference in 1910. The year 2002 marked the 100th year and Centennial Celebration for Delta Zeta. Chapters nationwide celebrated the event as well as a special convocation during the summer at the Delta Zeta National Convention.

Delta Zeta is one of the largest national sororities with 165 college chapters in 50 states. There are currently over 200,000 alumnae and collegiate members of Delta Zeta.

The sorority colors are old rose and nile green, the flower is the pink Killarney rose. The sorority emblem is the Roman lamp, its official jewel is the diamond. Delta Zeta's magazine , The LAMP of Delta Zeta, is sent to all members and is published three times a year.

Delta Zeta headquarters are located in Oxford , Ohio . All college chapters receive supervision from national officers, regional directors and local alumnae advisory boards. There are over 250 alumnae chapters in each of the 50 states, as well as Canada and England.

For members needing financial assistance for their education, Delta Zeta has a national loan fund and many scholarship opportunities.

Locally, the Xi Upsilon Chapter was founded at Northeastern University on March 18, 1989.
